Obituary
Gerald Lynn Leefers, age 73 departed this life to farm forever on, July 8, 2012. He was born to Rosina Julifs Leefers and John W. Leefers at their home north of Unadilla and lived in the Unadilla area all of his life. A brother, Ted, joined him 6 yrs later. He and Peggy Laughlin were married on January 23, 1958 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. They lived on their farm north or Unadilla and raised three daughters who survive him, Sherry Kreifels of Papillion, Cindy and husband Mike Ford of Alexandria, VA and Corinne and husband Todd Zahn of Unadilla.
Eight grandchildren, Megan and husband Jared, Erin and friend Logan and Tyler Kreifels, Gerald and Jasmine Temple, Becky Zahn and Michael West, Karla, and Brian Zahn, step grandchildren Ashley and Austin Ford and great granddaughter Jaicee Sabin are a happy group who love to get together and celebrate any event. Survivors also include brother Ted and wife Cheryl, sister in law Joyce Laughlin, and nieces Valerie Stranathan and Allison Williams, nephew Michael Leefers. Jerry was preceded by his parents and parents in law, Lavern and Maxine Laughlin, niece Anne Heather Sahrmann and some dear friends.
Jerry farmed all of his life and loved his dozer and soil conservation work. He and Peggy and Todd and Corinne raised a lot of cattle and farmed many acres over the numerous years in business together. Jerry enjoyed his family and the kids and grandkids, his many pets, fishing and hunting, traveling and their home and friends in Florida. He served on the Unadilla School board, The Unadilla Rural fire board and the Unadilla Coop board, and served as catcher for the Unadilla Town Team softball club for many years.
Family will greet friends at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey funeral home on Tuesday, July 10th from 6 to 8 pm. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 11 at 11 am at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse.
Memorial in lieu of flowers are suggested to the family's choice.
