Glen S. Royal, 83, of Palmyra, passed away on December 28, 2024, at Madonna in Lincoln. He was born on November 11, 1941, to Herman and Viola (Kettelhut) Royal in Lincoln. During high school, Glen was active in FFA and played drums in the band. He graduated in 1959. On August 14, 1964, he married Betty Stubbendick at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Palmyra.
A lifelong farmer, Glen worked in partnership with his brother, Gerald, for over 60 years. He was a proud member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. Glen also served in the Army Reserves for six years and was a former member of the Nebraska Cattlemen and Nebraska Pork Producers. In addition to his farming career, Glen was dedicated to the Boy Scouts in Palmyra and helped establish the local troop #334, serving as a leader. He was active in many aspects of community life and enjoyed participating in rodeos as a member of the Palmyra Rough Riders, as well as watching them later in life. Glen had a great love for the sandhills, his horses and donkeys, running his backhoe and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Betty Royal; children Kevin Royal, Kenneth (Nancy) Royal and Kimberly (Chad) Hartwick; grandchildren Lauren, Jason (Ivy), Scott, Megan (Nick), Alex, Zach and Kris; great grandchildren Sterling, Payton, Isabella, Kahleesi, Breanna and Faith; brother Gerald (Claretta) Royal; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister & brother-in-law Marjorie & Orlin Moss.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Palmyra. Burial will follow at St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation with family will be held from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. all at St. Leo's in Palmyra.
Memorials are suggested to St. Leo's Catholic Church or Palmyra Fire & Rescue Dept.
