Glenn Alvin Lewis, 86, passed away March 31, 2011 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was born on June 1, 1924 in Bald Hill, OK. His parents were James Thomas and Orpha (Fanning) Lewis.
He spent a Tom Sawyer boyhood in Oklahoma. He joined the Marines in December 1941 and spent World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he made his way to Nebraska where he met and married Leona Lemka on February 14, 1947. They raised six children.
He spent the majority of his career as a truck driver and ended it as the dock foreman at Weaver Potato Chip Company in Lincoln. He enjoyed fishing, country western music, western books, telling stories, but most of all, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Edna, and his brother Donald Lewis of Unadilla.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leona; daughter Trixy Ziemann and husband Russell; son Thomas and wife Jo; son Jack; daughter Nancy Liesemeyer and husband Arlan; all of Unadilla; son Jerry and wife Carol of West Des Moines, IA; daughter Sally Peterson and husband Lloyd of Syracuse; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, other friends and relatives.
Funeral services are Monday, April 4, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial will be at Unadilla Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Memorials to family's choice.
