Grace Kathryn McGregor was born on February 19, 1925 at Louisville, Nebraska , the fourth child of seven of Walter Scott and Grace (Kinsser) McGrew. Grace's family moved often during her childhood and teens. Grace reminisced about one large odd-shaped house they lived in during the depression that reminded her of a hay stack. Grace said that times were hard, but she didn't remember ever feeling poor because everyone was in the same boat. She said that they had good food, good plain clothes to wear, fun times in the wooded areas around the house and abandoned chicken house. A winter highlight was when her friend's Dad, Harvey Koop, would load all the kids onto his toboggan with him and go flying down Cherry Hill. Grace said that her mother was the center of everyone's life from sewing clothing out of feed sacks, canning fruits and vegetables, and being an emotional support for many.
Grace married Bob McGregor on May 5, 1946 after an interesting courtship. Bob had started out dating her best friend Joyce. Bob's National Guard Unit was mobilized for active duty and Grace and Bob corresponded two or three times a week. When Bob was discharged in 1946, he asked Grace to marry him. Grace had been in the Women's Army Corp and was also soon discharged. Grace shared that her first and " only" date with Bob was the night before their wedding. To this union, two children were born- Micki and Pat. Grace enjoyed reading, listening to music, going to the opera, concerts, and plays, visiting friends, playing cards, and bowling. She was a Dog Groomer in the Elkhorn, Nebraska area.
Grace is survived by her son Patrick (Sandy) McGregor, of Weeping Water, NE, and daughter Micki Scully, of Rainier WA, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and brother Chris McGrew, of Omaha, NE
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Robert McGregor, three sisters- Mirian, JoAnn, Dorothy, two brothers-- Larry and Johnny.
