Herbert L. Klemme was born on April 20, 1926 in Murdock, Nebraska to Henry and Henrietta (Heberlein) Klemme. He passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 27 days.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Church in Murdock, he then graduated from Murdock Schools in 1944. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during World War II both Stateside and Overseas. Upon his discharge in 1946, Herb attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he received his Bachelors degree in Music in 1950, Masters Degree in Administration in 1953 and Ed. Specialist degree in 1969.
Herb worked for a brief time as a music educator before accepting a Principal position at Morrill, Nebraska. In 1964, he accepted his first Superintendency at Elgin, Nebraska and two years later became Superintendent of the Oakland, Nebraska Schools. During his time at Oakland he was instrumental in the Oakland-Craig School Merger. After fourteen years, he left the Oakland School System and became the Director of Administrative Services for three Nebraska Indian Colleges, Winnebago, Macy and Santee. His final position was as Superintendent at the Dawson-Verdon public schools.
Throughout his career, he was a member of many professional and business organizations both within Nebraska and on a National level. After retirement, Herb spent a great deal of time traveling throughout Europe, South America, Mexico, Canada and the United States.
He is survived by his Nephews: Steve & Betsy Klemme of Murdock, NE; Dean Ellermeier of Scribner, NE; Great Niece and Nephews: Rachel & Eric Larson & Family; Kyle Klemme; Craig & Theresa Ellermeier & Family; Jeremy & Rebecca Ellermeier.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sisters: Amanda & Minnie Klemme; Brother: Henry Klemme wife Sylvia and neice Kathy (Klemme) Ellermeier.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Murdock, Nebraska with Rev. Robert Neben officiating.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 19th from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Callahan Cemetery in Rural Murdock, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church or the Callahan Cemetery
