Obituary

Howard Leroy "Jake" Jacobson, 80, of Syracuse, passed away on January 24, 2025, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center in the memory care facility, Angels Landing. He was born on May 19, 1944, in Nebraska City to Howard & Anna (Minderman) Jacobson. On September 18, 1964, he married JoAnn McClane at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca.

Leroy spent his career working as a Field Supervisor in the Transportation & Construction Equipment Electronic Operations Division at the Omaha Public Power District. He valued hard work, honesty, and the value of a man's word. He was known for his quick-wit and self-made comedy.  His one liners and practical jokes will always be cherished.  He was a man who found joy in the outdoors, often playing golf, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was also a member of various social groups, including a snow skiing group, ping pong group, and card club, where he treasured the friendships, he made. Above all, Leroy's greatest joy was spending time with his family, and he held them dear throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn; children Julie (Troy) Steinhoff, Jeffrey (Debbie) Jacobson, Jill (Greg) Gansemer, Jason (Tana) Jacobson; grandchildren Travis (Emily) Steinhoff, Renee Steinhoff, Mitchell (Toni) Steinhoff, Spencer Steinhoff, Ashley Jacobson & special friend Gabe Miller, Nicholas Jacobson, Nicole (Ty) Hansen, Alex Gansemer, Cyman Jacobson & special friend Lizzie Dibble, Jax Jacobson; great grandchildren Jaxson, Ryker, Benjamin, Olivia, Reed & Magnolia; his sister Marilyn (Bill) Farmer and his sister-in-law Judy (Don) Harris; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Anna Jacobson, and his in-laws, Harold and Bette McClane and sister in law Jan McMullen.

A gathering with family to celebrate Leroy's life will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 3 pm until 5 pm at the Syracuse Country Club. A private burial will be held at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.  Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
