Howard Stanley Sack born to Claude & Martha (Barr) Sack, on March 30, 1924, at the family farm North West of Louisville, in Sarpy, County. Howard attended school for 8 years at Stringtown, which was located ¾ of a mile from the family farm. Attended High School in Louisville and graduated with the class of 1941. After high school he worked for a dairy farmer doing various jobs. He also worked for a local farmer. In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was in the 1st Armored division, 16th Engineer B.N., he went to Fort Knox for 5 months of Training. He attended 1 month of Training in Camp Campbell, in Kentucky for Tank Training. He then went to Virginia by Train to Hampton Rhodes Virginia, where he boarded a ship for Casablanca. He took a train to Bannita Africa, then to Naples Italy. He was there a month for training then went by ship to Angio, Italy, and stayed there for the winter and in the spring he headed up all the way up Italy towards Austria to Lake Coma around Switzerland, to Austria. Shortly after that word was out that the war had ended. While serving Angio he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for Heroic Achievents in Action on May 28, 1944 near Cisterna Italy. He was Honorably Discharged on October 20, 1945. After the Army he worked for the Sand Pit. In September 1946, he married Florance Kracker, and to this marriage a son was born Larry Sack. He stared working for Ash Grove Cement Company, in Louisville, in 1947, he left Ash Grove in 1949 to take his wife Florence to Colorado for treatment of M.S., they were in Colorado for 6 months, they returned back to Nebraska and Howard began working at Ash Grove. Florence passed away in 1954. In 1964 he married SaraLee (Sally), and her 3 daughters, Glenda, Teri, and Valerie. Howard retired from Ash Grove after 37 years. Howard & Sally were caretakers at Camp Kitaki from 1973 to 1981, and Howard alson worked part time as a night Security guard at Platte River State Park.
Howard & Sally enjoyed traveling, especially to Missouri & Oregon. Howard enjoyed fishing woodworking, grandkids, he would ride the train to Kansas City Baseball games in his younger day. Sally passed away in 2001. Howard moved to an apartment in Ashland in 2004 after living in South Bend most of his adult life.
Howard is preceded by his parents, infant brother, wives Florence & SaraLee, sister Hazel Kaiser, mother-in-law Esther Kuhn, and sisters-in-law Donna Kuhn & Dixie Kuhn.
Howard is survived by his son Larry Sack, of St. Paul, NE, daughters & sons-in-law Glenda Couch, of White City, OR, Teri & Paul Stapleton, of Texas, and Valerie & Wayne Pike, of South Bend, NE, grandchildren Mandy Doerr, Shawn Grady, Brandon Grady, of Oregon, Paula Christensen, of Bellevue, NE, Dustin Stapleton, of Colorado, Donald Crouch, of Ashland, NE, Gunner Pike, of South Bend, NE great grandchildren, Devyn Grady, Shaylynn Grady, Blake Grady, Caleb Christensen, of Bellevue, NE Cooper Crouch, of Ashland, NE, brother & sister-in-law, Raymond & Darlene Sack, of Michigan, brother Ronnie Sack, of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law Linda & Harry Larson, of Nebraska City, NE, brother-in-law Roger Kuhn, along with many nieces & nephews. Special Friends Kevin Evans, Amos Beck, Bing Kobler, Jean Ipock, Mickie Anson, Margie & Dean Steahr Roy Crenshaw.
Memorial Services will be, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Fusselman Allen Harvey Funeral Chapel, 413 Elm, Louisville, Nebraska, and burial at South Bend Cemetery

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29th from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., and the family will greet friends and relatives from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. all at the Funeral Home.
