Irene (Kasbohm) Heinke, 90 of Syracuse, died July 25, 2016 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Society.

Irene was born March 14, 1926 to Earl Kasbohm and Mary (Wirth) Kasbohm. She attended District 18 and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1943 where she was class president. She graduated from Lincoln General School of nursing in 1946 as a registered nurse.

On December 29, 1945 Irene married her high school sweetheart Harold Heinke. Irene and Harold moved to the family farm south of Dunbar where they lived until retiring to Syracuse, NE and El Centro, CA.

Irene loved nursing, especially the emergency room. She worked as a private duty nurse, school nurse for the Nebraska City Schools, Director of Nursing at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City, and finished her career at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA where she would often work a double shift.

Irene was a member of the Syracuse United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, having coffee with friends, and her family. Irene will be remembered for her sense of humor, straight talk, and get it done attitude.

Survivors include: daughters, Terry (Steve) Zimmers of Syracuse, Cindi VanHousen of Papillion; grandchildren, Christopher (Jenny) Zimmers of Omaha, Casey VanHousen & Christine Little of Las Vegas, and Katie (Mike) Munaco of Naperville, IL. Great granddaughters, Regan and Campbell of Omaha, and Olivia and Mia Munaco of Naperville, IL.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Doris Roos and Robert Kasbohm as well as many in-laws.

Memorial services will be held at the Green Room, 5th and Main in Syracuse at 2 P.M. on Monday August 1st. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery at 1 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Syracuse United Methodist Church building fund.
