James "Jim" D. Summers, 68 of Bennet, passed away on October 23, 2023, at his home. He was born on April 29, 1955, in Hannibal, Missouri to Ralph & Virginia (Howald) Summers. Jim married Marcia Dowding in 1979 in Palmyra.
Jim worked as an engineer, most recently with Valmont. He served on the Palmyra Fire Dept., Palmyra School Board and Otoe County Fair Board. Jim belonged to the Methodist Church at Palmyra and later Trinity Church in West Point. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique tractors.
He is survived by his wife Marcia Summers of Bennet; son Andy Summers of Sioux City, IA; siblings Dan (Sylvia) Summers of Columbia, MO, Cathy (Terry) Davis of Albuquerque, NM, Wilma Summers of Smithville, MO, Wayne Summers of Troy, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marlene Weatherhogg of Palmyra, Marilyn Parks of Lincoln, Galyn (Ann) Dowding of Lincoln, Beverly (Glen) Emswiler of Lincoln, Peggy (Ken) Bills of North Loup, NE; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Summers, brother-in-law Leslie Weatherhogg and sister-in-law Melissa Summers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bennet Community Church. Burial will be at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 25 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
