Janice Lee (Helm) Thomson left her earthly life August 12, 2026, at Hillcrest Firethorn in Lincoln, NE where she resided.
Janice, 89, was born August 6, 1937, at Syracuse, NE to Jacob and Minnie (Kutzner) Helm. She grew up in the Unadilla area. She graduated from Unadilla High School in 1955, where she enjoyed cheerleading and playing volleyball.
On June 9, 1956, Janice married James VanAllen Thomson at the Presbyterian Church in Palmyra, NE. They lived for a time in Lincoln before moving to the Omaha area.
Janice became a widow at the young age of 30. She was left to raise three children, which she did while working to provide for the family. She primarily worked in Omaha for Western Electric and Methodist Hospital. In 1996, Janice moved to Palmyra and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln before retiring. In 2017, Janice moved to Lincoln, NE.
Some years before she retired, Janice became a professional clown, an activity that came naturally to her. Using the stage name “Gucci,” she enjoyed performing at birthday parties, parades, and other events; however, her favorite audience were her grandkids. You could say she enjoyed dressing up as a clown, but she also loved dressing up to go dancing, socializing, or whenever leaving the house. Other activities she enjoyed included crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, making crafts, and collecting things.
Janice leaned on her faith throughout her life, becoming a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church. Her and James were charter members of Faith United Presbyterian church in LaVista. Janice advocated for others to embrace going to church and lived by the motto, “God will provide.”
Janice is survived by a daughter, Jackie (Duane) Bremer, and sons Roger (Debbie) and Rod (Linda) Thomson. And, grandchildren Jillian (SeLina) Ysac, Joseph Thomson, Jacob (Krystal) Thomson, Jared Thomson, Emma Bremer-Faulkner, Cameron (Mikayla) Thomson, and James Bremer. Sisters-in-law Rachele Newbury and Virginia (Dave) Ensign. Six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Alice Stilwell and Dorothy Patz, and half-siblings Rosa Callaway and Edward Helm.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15 at 3:00 p.m. at the Palmyra Presbyterian Church, located at 615 Apple St., Palmyra, NE. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. with the family at the church.
