Janice "Jan" Ropers of Lincoln, NE, passed away on May 6th at the age of 79. She was born to Elmer & Helen (Seelhoff) Ropers on May 2, 1946. Jan graduated from Syracuse High School and was employed in the Department of Health and Human Services in the office of the Lincoln Regional Center for 51 years.
She volunteered at Bryan East Hospital for many years. She was a Husker fan and attended many football games. She was a member of Southwood Lutheran church and a former member of the Southpointe Kiwanis Club.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Lester Strickland. Among her survivors are sisters Arlene Ropers of Lincoln and Marjorie Strickland of Walhalla, South Carolina; nephews Steven (Becky) and Michael (Pam) Strickland all of South Carolina; great nephews Zachary (Christina), Ty (Olivia) and Casey (Hannah) Strickland and great niece Ashley (Dalton) Tumblin all of South Carolina. Also survived by her great great nephew Jackson; great great niece Gray Strickland; one to be born any day as well as many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Burial will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery (North Branch) in rural Avoca.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with family greeting friends at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Cancer Center or Southwood Lutheran Church.
