Janice was born on December 13, 1933, in Syracuse, NE to John and Anna (Harms) Hespen. She passed away on January 16, 2026, at her home in Syracuse.
Janice married Howard Meadows on February 14, 1952, in Syracuse. He passed away on September 30, 2002. Janice was a stay at home mom for many years, raising their six children, and helping her husband build his business. She later worked as Manager of the Syracuse Swimming Pool for several years, and as a med aide at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center for 30 years, retiring at the age 80. She was also a member of the Goldenrods Extension Club, taught Sunday School for many years, and served as a Girl Scout Leader.
Janice is survived by her six children: Patti (Doug) Luebe, Barb (Ron) Zahn, Steve Meadows (Special Friend Deb Rich), Bruce Meadows, Lori Kaiser (Greg Niday), and Teri (Lyle) Chaney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jill Allgood (Special Friend Jeff Brown), Brianna Berner (Adam Verna), Brynne Berner, Travis Meadows, Jeremy (Angie) Kaiser, Matt Kaiser, Christopher Niday, Josh Chaney, Scott (Lydia) Chaney, Tara Chaney, step-grandchildren, Rachel Zahn, Katy (Ben) Biehl, Noah (Jessie) Zahn, 23 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Janice’s greatest love and joy above all else was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her home was always a place of gathering, laughter, and connection. She will be dearly missed by many and lovingly remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, her grandson Brian Meadows, son-in-law Darrell Berner, and her brothers and sisters. She was the last of her generation.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Syracuse.
