Janine Irene Petersen was the firstborn child of Alvin H. Petersen and A. Irene Petersen, born at Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 19, 1947. She was baptized at Syracuse United Methodist Church, and was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware) outside of Syracuse, where she was an active member for most of her life.

Janine graduated from Syracuse High School and attended classes at Southeast Community College. She was employed in a number of different roles throughout her life, but the focus was always service to others. Janine was most proud of her 21 years as an Information and Long Distance Telephone Operator at LT&T/Alltel, where she was recognized 80 times for her excellent customer service.

Janine served as a dedicated volunteer at Lincoln General Hospital, and she was a generous supporter of Cedars Home for Children.

Never one to have idle hands, Janine loved handicrafts, puzzles, word searches, and other games. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with friends and family. Janine traveled with her parents on many vacations throughout the country.

Janine faced many challenges in her life, but throughout it all, she retained her steadfast Christian faith and a positive attitude. She was a friend to all, and her laughter will be long remembered.

Janine joined her parents, her brother-in-law Karl Linke, and her Heavenly Father on July 9, 2024. She is survived by her siblings Lyle Petersen (Barbara Petersen), Lois Linke, Geri True (Jeff Johnson), nephew Tim Linke (Tami Linke), nieces Mandy Smidt (Brian Smidt), Sydney True (Jacob Donaldson) and Anna True, and great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Otoe. The service will be recorded and available to watch on Sunday, July 14th.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12th from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Fund or Cedars Home for Children Foundation.
