John Paul Bruns, 51 of Elmwood, NE passed away on February 25, 2014. He was born July 19, 1962 in Lincoln, NE to Robert & Marie (Schlunsen) Bruns. He was raised by Gwineth & Arthur Drake from the age of 8.

John married Annette "Miki" Murphy on June 27, 1992 in Lincoln, NE. John graduated from Elmwood High School with the class of 1980. After high school he worked many years with his friend Art Ortlieb of Town & Country Masonry. He started his own masonry business as Bruns Masonry in 1994. For the past six years he worked part-time for his brother Kirby at Drake's Propane Service of Avoca.

John coached Little League Youth Football for 7 years and helped coach numerous little league baseball teams for his son's teams. He loved knowing he helped all those little boys learn the fundamentals of football.

John is survived by wife, Miki Bruns; sons Tyler & Dylan all of Elmwood; siblings/spouses: Sandra Leroy, Vicki Callaway, Kevin Drake, Dennis (Bonnie) Drake, Elmwood; Terry (Merry) Drake, Murdock; Kirby (Cindy) Drake, Avoca; Kirk (Denise) Drake, Bob (Ronda) Bruns, Betty Mattice, Vona (Carl) Ulm, Steve (Lori) Stock, Lincoln; Katy (Dennis) Rohde, Denver, CO, sister-in-laws Shelley (Frank) Coppel, West Columbia SC; sister-in-law Esther Drake, Lincoln, brother-in-law Johann Schalk, Idaho; parents-in-law Jim & Dorothy Murphy, Weeping Water, sister-in-law Bobbi (Darold) Keene, brother-in-law Doug (Kelly) Murphy. Dozens of nieces, nephews from his extended family and friends.


Preceded by parents, Mr. & Mrs. Drake, brothers Dale Bruns, Jim Bruns, Keith Drake; sisters Sharmon Stock, Gwen Schalk, & Sheroll Oehlerking; brothers-in-law Eldon Oehlerking, Gary Callaway, Wayne Stock.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, March 1, at the Cass County Fair Grounds, Hwy 1 & 144th Street, Weeping Water.
