Obituary

John Dale Halvorsen was born December 16, 1917, near Unadilla, Nebraska, to Herman Earl & Minnie Marie (Beckard) Halvorsen. He passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Syracuse Good Samaritan Center, Syracuse, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

John married Norma B. Henderson, in 1941, and to this union they raised Sharon, Sherrill, Phyllis, Jackie, John Jr. and James. John served as the mayor of Palmyra. He was a machinist for Air Craft Parts when he worked in California, and after returning to Nebraska to take care of his Mother, he drove the Handi Bus for many years, along with playing cards and helping family members with Farming.

John is survived by his children Sharon Pole, of Hoopa, CA, Sherrill (Buddy) Snipes, of Palm Springs, CA, Phyllis (Richard) Newman, of Irvine CA, Jackie (Jerry) Sporhase, of Palmyra, NE, John Jr. (Kathy) Halvorsen, of Riverside, CA, and James Earl Halvorsen, of CA, 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Brother Marvin (Jennie) Halvorsen, of Syracuse, NE, Virgil Ted (Wilma) Halvorsen, of Palmyra, NE, Larry (Rose Marie) Halvorsen, of Unadilla, NE and brother-in-law Delbert Heather, of Nebraska City, NE.

John is preceded in Death by his parents Herman & Minnie Halvorsen, sister Marie, brother Earl Jr., and 3 grandchildren Peggy, Yvette, and Johnny.

Funeral Services for John will be 2:30 P.M., Saturday, December 1, 2012, at United Methodist Church 535 "C" Street, Palmyra, NE, with burial at Unadilla Cemetery following services. Family Suggests Memorials to the Family
