John H. Staack, 66 of Avoca, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He was born on June 26, 1957, to Harold & Leila (Dodenhof) Staack in Syracuse. After graduating from high school, he worked at Acco Seed in Weeping Water and later farmed for Bill & Wayne Meyer. For the last 36 years he worked for Buel Trucking as a rock truck driver. During this time, he became known by his nicknames "Jigsaw" & "Sea Biscuit".
On May 4, 1991, he married Doris Grable at the Lutheran Church in Nebraska City. Despite facing health challenges, including a liver transplant on April 26, 1994, John was blessed with 30 additional years to cherish life's precious moments with his beloved family. John served his community by volunteering on the Avoca Fire Department. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. John had a welcoming presence and would often find kids sitting on his lap and eating off his plate.
He is survived by his wife Doris; son Shawn Staack; daughter Chelsey (Talon) O'Connor; siblings Fritz Staack, Henry Staack, Pat (Terry) Scheinost, Gary (Kim) Staack, Ronald (Sherri) Staack, Carol (Mike) Graham, Kennie (Dee Dee) Staack; sister-in-law Deb Casey; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Leslie Staack.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca. Casual dress is requested. The service will be livestreamed on the First Lutheran Youtube page.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the Avoca Fire Department or Avoca Town Hall.
