Joy W. Schroder, 93, of Palmyra, passed away on January 7, 2025, at The Legacy in Lincoln. He was born July 31, 1931, to William and Dorothy (Wyatt) Schroder at their home near Palmyra. Joy lived on the farm where he was born his entire life. He graduated from Palmyra High School and later joined the Army, serving as a Radar Instructor from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1954.

On October 25, 1954, he married Verle M. Nutzman at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle. Together, they enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage. Joy was a farmer and caretaker of the land. He was a founding member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Palmyra, where he dedicated his time and talents. Joy's faith and work ethic were the cornerstones of his life, and he passed these values on to his family and friends.

A devoted public servant, Joy was a 70-year member of American Legion Post #195. He also served on the Palmyra School Board and as an Otoe County Commissioner, both for 12 years. Throughout his life, he contributed 76 years of service across various community, county, and state committees. Joy's passion for his community was evident in the many ways he worked to make it a better place for future generations.

He is survived by his daughters Ruth (Jim) Kahler, Donna (Bruce) Ekstrum, Lana Jean Lionberger; grandchildren Carissa Lindsey, Dana Ekstrum, Joshua Ekstrum, Carlie Jo (Tim) Antes, Connor (Aleah) Marcoe, Lauren Lionberger, Hannah Lionberger; great grandchildren Reily J. Ekstrum, Archie D. Antes, Jovee J. Antes, Wyles T. Antes, Arlo May Marcoe, Oden Bear Marcoe; sister Verda Umland; sisters-in-law Margem Naffziger, Gaylene Nutzman, Karen Price; also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Verle, parents William & Dorothy Schroder, and brothers Edward & Myron Schroder.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Palmyra. The service will be livestreamed on the Beautiful Savior Facebook page. Private burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13th from 1 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or American Legion Post #195.
