Joyce Joanne Burke, 94, of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln. She was born on May 28, 1931, to Oliver Scofield I & Jonybell (Nash) Scofield in Buffalo Mo. Joyce graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City and went on to attend a secretarial college.

Joyce was first married to John Gwin, and together they had two daughters, Jeanene and Eileen. After their divorce, Joyce later married Mark Burke.

Throughout her career, Joyce served in various supervisory roles. She worked at the IRS in Kansas City and later continued her professional journey with Radiology Department at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City.

Joyce had a deep passion for watercolor painting and was a gifted artist. She was a proud member of the Watercolor Society in Reno, Nevada. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she taught many students the art of watercolor painting.

After moving to Syracuse, she attended Syracuse Bible Church, enjoyed singing hymns and listening to Pastor Fred's sermons. She looked forward to going to the Syracuse Senior Center to play cards and dine with friends. A lifelong reader, Joyce also found great joy in birdwatching—particularly hummingbirds—and in playing the card game "hand and foot" with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanene (Terry) French and Eileen (Ron) Shipps; her grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) Werner, Ross (Thalia) French, Jason (Gina) Burnam, and Curtis Stafford; her seven cherished great-grandchildren and her brother Oliver Scofield II.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mark Burke, her father, Oliver Scofield I, her mother, Jonybell Scofield, her sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Nancy Scofield.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Syracuse Bible Church.
