Obituary

LIVESTREAM (Click Here)

Joyce Ann Hebert Stander was born June 29, 1938 in Omaha, NE to Mary E Carper Hebert and Raymond X Hebert. She died June 21, 2026 in Lincoln.

Joyce grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and attended St. Johns Elementary School on the Creighton Campus and St. Mary's High School, before graduating in the inaugural class for Mercy High. She married Paul Stander at St. John's Catholic Church on the Creighton Campus on April 30, 1960. They were married 51 years. A lifelong Catholic, Joyce belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church for over 50 years and held many offices in the Alter Society and volunteered at the church fair stand for decades. She had great faith and believed in being of service.

Joyce loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very involved in their lives. She volunteered for every role from baseball coach and den mother to her boys, to Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for the town of Murdock. She worked many events at the ballpark for her children and spent lots of time on many bleachers watching three generations of sporting events.

She loved to play cards, playing Pinochle on card nights with her husband for years and with her family. She also played board games, worked crosswords, did puzzles, read, and was an avid Husker volleyball fan. She loved to sew and make crafts and for many years could be found at local craft shows with her "Joyce's Choices".

Always a volunteer, she was an active member and officer of the Murdock Lions/Lioness Club. Alongside raising her children, Joyce worked part time at Wilma's Café, Target, Kmart, Oxbow Animal Health, and the gate at the Nebraska State Fair. Her true joy was taking care of children, spending many years as a child care provider for special families and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, infant son Paul Jr., son, James, sisters Mary Rosenthal and Judy Cross.

She is survived by her children, Diane Vice, Margaret, Charles and Donald Stander, grandchildren Alex Vice and Katelyn Steffen (Lance) and great grandchildren Titus, Eloise and Magnus Steffen, brother Gerald Hebert(Susie), many relatives and lifelong friends.
