Obituary

Julie Ann Barrett Gullickson was born July 19, 1961 in Omaha Nebraska to Bernard Barrett and Julia Jakes Barrett. She was the ninth child of ten children (five boys and five girls). She attended school at Marrs Elementary and graduated from South High School in 1979. She loved singing in high school plays, where she began her lifelong passion for music and plays. She attended college at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Bellevue University, where she received a Bachelor's Degree.

After graduating from college, Julie worked in the floral industry for many years as a floral designer. She used these skills throughout her lifetime, providing all of the floral arrangements for weddings and celebratory functions. She lived in Kansas City and California for a short time working in the telecommunications industry and for Trajet before returning to Omaha.

Julie's son Colin was born on June 19, 1993 in Omaha, Nebraska. Julie was devoted to her son Colin, spending many hours encouraging and supporting his interests in piano, band, as well as all of his extracurricular activities. They shared their love for musicals and plays and spent many hours watching all of the Disney classics.

Julie married Ron Gullickson on December 19, 1996 in their home at Chris Lake in Bellevue, Nebraska. Ron supported Julie for several years when she left the workforce to care for her mother and father when health care issues arose. During this same timeframe Julie was also very active in the local theater companies, providing costume design and assistance in local plays and events. She was on the Board of Directors for Bellevue Little Theater, where she was also involved in costume design and production activities.

In July 2007, Julie and Ron purchased Ralston Costume. Julie loved working at the costume shop, and was extremely talented at designing, crafting, and putting together costumes for local play and theater groups.

Julie has always been involved in her church, especially in serving as a drama and worship leader. Julie was a fun-loving, creative person. She loved to build and create projects--skills learned from her father. She was supportive of all of her friends and family and would never hesitate to provide childcare, run errands, tile floors, or do landscaping for others. She loved to cook and she loved to garden, often delivering vases of flowers from her gardens. Julie loved living at their lake house, where she was the happiest with family around her frollicking in the water. She is dearly loved by her family, and her hearty laugh and loving heart will always be missed. Her dream in life was to provide costuming for schools and local theater in order to bring more joy into peoples lives. She achieved her dream.
