KENNETH DEAN CONKEL
Kenneth was born December 21, 1942, to Irvin and Pansy (Dreeszen) Conkel, at
Nebraska City, Nebraska. He passed away on June 14, 2008, at Lancaster Manor,
Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 65 years, 5 months, and 24 days.
Ken married Janet Miller in November 1968, in Rye, New Hampshire, and together
they raised a daughter Kristi. Ken served in the United States Navy aboard a
submarine. Ken had two family businesses, The Landing Store and The
Kennebunker, in Maine. After moving to Florida, he became a Florida Marlins
fan, but always remained a Husker fan. He loved to travel, walk the Florida
beaches, and read. He was known as a gourmet cook, a storyteller, and a friend
to everyone he met. Ken had returned to Nebraska to help care for his mother.
As a young boy, his brothers and he mowed the Hopewell Cemetery where he will
find his final rest.
Kenneth is survived by his mother Pansy Conkel, of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter
Kristi and husband Bret and grandson Oliver White, all of Kennebunk, Maine,
brothers Mike Conkel, of Lantana, Florida, Jeffrey and wife Melany Conkel, of
Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jerry and wife Chrissy Conkel, of Lincoln, Nebraska, his
Aunts Ruth and husband Charles Nickens, of Omaha, Nebraska and Ellen and
husband
Norman Hessen,of Lincoln, Nebraska, along with two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Unadilla, Nebraska with Rev. Barbara Thursby officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.
