Obituary

Kenneth (Bud) Daryl Damme, Syracuse, Nebraska, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Syracuse. Kenneth was born at home to Walter and Rose (Kienker) Damme on February 13, 1924. He married Elva Rulla in a double-ceremony with her sister, Alice, in Cook, Nebraska on November 4, 1945. To this union, two daughters and one son was born.

Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Otoe County. He attended school in Cook and was a farmer. He also drove a road grader for Otoe County and served as a 4-H leader for many years for the Practical Feeders 4-H Club. He was a proud member of the Bluebirds Across Nebraska and the American Pencil Collectors Society. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He enjoyed dancing, especially polkas, and tinkering in his workshop creating bluebird houses and wishing wells.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elva; his daughters, Sheryl Behrens and husband, Denver, Lincoln; Marcia Meyer and husband, Aaron, Curtis; son, Boyd and wife, Barbara, Kearney. His grandchildren are Tammy and Calvin Overton, Lincoln; Troy and Stacie Behrens, Johnston, IA; Kelly Meyer, Kearney, Zachary Meyer, currently deployed with the United States Marine Corp, and his wife, Christina, San Clemente, CA at Camp Pendleton; Jamie Meyer, Los Angeles, CA; Benjamin and Stacey Damme, Omaha; Travis and Jessica Damme, Kansas City; Darin and Kacie Damme, Kansas City; Joshua Damme, Kearney. Great-grandchildren: Jessica and Brittany Overton; Raegan and Gage Behrens, Faith Damme, and Isaac Damme, with three additional great-grandchildren to arrive in 2009. He is also survived by his three sisters, Vernelle Haertel, Greenwood; Beverly Schroeder and husband, Allen, Cook, and Jacki Hubbs, Fort Smith, AR, "adopted" grandchildren Jeremy, Amy, Owen and Carter Wander, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Leroy Haertel and Dr. J. C. Hubbs.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home in Syracuse. Inurnment will be in the Cook Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family greeting friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the family for designation later. Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home, Syracuse, is in charge of arrangements.
