Kenneth Arthur Nolting Sr

(March 7, 1933 – July 17, 2018)

Ken was born on March 7, 1933 on the family homestead near Eads, Colorado, to Joseph Rosevelt Nolting and Dorothy Martha (Thaden) Nolting.

He spent his early years on the homestead.  In 1938, the family moved to Ogallala, NE.  About 1947, they moved to Crook, Colorado, where Ken graduated from High School a few years later.  He joined the Army in 1952, was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.  His two Sons were born during his time in Alaska.  He returned to Nebraska around 1958.

He met the love of his life, LenaRae Thomas, from Bennet, NE, and they married on April 11, 1959.  To this union their daughter, Laurie Renee, was born.  This family of five lived in Bennet until 1976.  During this time, Ken was the owner and operator of the Palmyra Repair Shop, Palmyra, NE.  In 1976, they moved to Eddyville, NE, where they owned and operated Lena's Grocery and the K&L Tavern and Café.  While in Eddyville, Ken served as Mayor, Fire Chief and Civil Defense Director.  In addition Ken and LenaRae were known as 'Santa and his helper' during the Christmas season and organized numerous other community activities.  Ken and LenaRae enjoyed decades of fishing, hunting and campground hosting together.

They moved back the area around 1987 and to Unadilla, NE, in 1993, where Ken was employed by Lincoln Truck Company until his passing.  He spent 20 years caring for LenaRae as she battled various cancers, until her death in 2016.

Ken enjoyed the last year of this life sharing adventures with his special friend, Donna Carmeli, from Texas, who he met in July of 2017.

Ken passed away peacefully in his home in Unadilla, Nebraska, early morning, July 17, 2018.

Survived by:  2 Sons  Joseph Nolting, Colorado, and Kennth Jr., Tennessee; Daughter Laurie (Marty) Dyer of Union, NE;  5 Granchildren  Jennie Winters of Lincoln, NE, Andy (Kim) Dyer of Plattsmouth, NE, Michelle (Rocky) Kershaw, Grand Island, NE, Mike Popham, North Dakota, Alicia (Dan) Naumann, Omaha, NE; 9 Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters Maxine Curtis, North Platte, NE, Eunice (Del) Shirley, Texas, Opal Timmer, Texas.

Preceded in Death By: Wife LenaRae (Thomas) Nolting; 2 Sisters Hazel and Velma, Brother Ivan, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Unadilla Community Center at 770 G Street, Unadilla, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
