Kenneth Deane Olmstead was born March 16, 1919, in Seward, Nebraska, to Ira & Josephine (Littlefield) Olmstead. He passed away, Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center, Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 3 months, and 6 days.
Ken married Mary, on May 12, 1944, in Seward, Nebraska. To this union, 2 daughters were born – Margaret Louise and Rose Ann. Ken was a member of the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Ocean as a signalman. Ken loved to have a Garden, and enjoyed being artistic with the colors of flowers arranged around his flag pole. He loved to run, sometimes up to 6 miles. Ken continued to run even in his 60 and 70's. Ken was a Certified Lay Speaker of the United Methodist Church, and sang in the Choir for many years.
The Seward Cemetery, where he is to be buried, is actually his home place. The cemetery is on land where his family had an apple orchard.
Ken is survived by daughter Rose Ann Olmstead, of Dorchester, MA, brother Don & wife Pat Olmstead, of Pearl, MS, and sister Ruth Thompson of Wahoo, NE, nieces & nephews Mike, Scot, Nick, Dan, Chris, Tom, Nancy, Suzy, Diana, Paul, Monty, Mysty, and Rebecca.
Ken is preceded in death his parents, wife Mary, daughter Margaret Louise Olmstead, and sister Helen Jean Beatty.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. United Methodist Church, Syracuse, NE, with graveside services at 3:00 P.M. at the Seward Cemetery, Seward, NE. Family Suggest Memorials to Syracuse Good Samaritan Center, or United Methodist Church both of Syracuse, NE
Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6 until 8 P.M. all at the Funeral Home, and the Casket will be open one hour before services at the Church.
