Larinda Kay Sigwing (Able), Age 73, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Palmyra, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 3, 1951, in Auburn, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Wes and Betty Able of Nemaha, Nebraska. She was a beloved sister to her siblings, John, Pat, and Sue; and a loving mother to her daughters, Amanda and Andrea. She is fondly remembered as a devoted sister, mother, aunt, great-aunt, adopted grandmother, and friend to many. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Wes and Betty; her brother, John; her sister, Pat; and her nephews, Derek Behrends and Chris Gerdes. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kay dedicated her life to her family but her whole world was her two girls, Amanda and Andrea. She was a devoted mother to her daughters where she helped coach them in softball, was a Girl Scout troop leader, taught them to drive a stick shift car, and ran them to all the school activities they participated in, cheering them on all the way. She was their biggest supporter and biggest fan throughout their entire lives.
After the passing of her sister Pat, Kay took on the role of grandmother for her sister's grandchildren, honoring her sister's wishes and providing support and guidance to her great nieces and nephews. It was not a role she took lightly but was one that she cherished dearly.
Kay's life was defined by her unwavering love for her family, her boundless generosity, and her innate ability to make others feel cherished. She was a woman of great strength, wisdom, and humor, always offering a kind word, a warm embrace, and a comforting presence. Her home was always open to those in need, and her infectious laughter was a testament to her joyful spirit.
Throughout her life, Kay's commitment to her loved ones was evident in all that she did. Her enduring devotion to her family, along with her deep sense of community, left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her selflessness, her caring nature, and her ability to bring joy to every room she entered. In addition to her family, Kay leaves behind a circle of friends who were like family to her. She touched countless lives with her kindness and will be remembered for her open arms, strength, and loving heart.
Kay was a long-time member of the Women's Auxiliary, and a member of Chapter GJ P.E.O. in Lincoln, Nebraska for over 25 years, joining in 1999. She was also a long-time member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church and was on the Palmyra Library Board for several years until she moved out of her home in Palmyra to live with her daughters in Lincoln. She enjoyed volunteering in the community in Palmyra and in Lincoln while at TierOne Bank where she spent many years volunteering for the American Cancer Society, Lincoln Paint-a-thon, Habitat for Humanity, and Lincoln Safe Quarters Campaigns. Kay was also a passionate reader and card player.
Kay graduated High School from Southeast Nebraska Consolidated School in Stella, Nebraska in 1969. She went on to get her associate degree in accounting from Omaha School of Commerce. She began her accounting career in Omaha working at the Woolworth's corporate office, then moved on to Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She met and later married Jerry Sigwing on March 1st, 1974. They moved to McCook, Nebraska in 1976 where she started her 33-year career at First Federal Lincoln Bank (TierOne Bank). Kay and Jerry welcomed surprise twin daughters, Amanda and Andrea, on December 4, 1979. After Kay and Jerry divorced in 1985, she and the girls moved to Palmyra, Nebraska. She continued her career in banking at the First Federal Lincoln Bank's Home Office in Lincoln, where she worked as a VP in their Fiscal Department and as the assistant security officer where she enjoyed working on white collar crime cases for the bank. Kay continued working at TierOne Bank until it closed in 2010, at which point she moved on to continue her long career in banking at Mutual of Omaha Bank in their BSA Department. Kay retired from banking in 2017 to enjoy more time with her family and friends.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Amanda and Andrea Sigwing of Lincoln, Nebraska; step-daughter, Tammy (Scott) Schomaker of Elmwood; sister, Sue (Steve) Biltoft of Palmyra; nieces, Dana Gerdes of Johnson, and Trisha (Nick) Plate of Cairo; nephews, Jarod (Kyisha) King of Statesville, North Carolina, Matt (Tonya) Easton of Ashland, and Wade Easton of Palmyra; step grand-daughter, Makenna Schomaker; great-nieces and nephews, Cedric (Celia), Eliah, Alerik, Josias, Levi, Malachi, Sophia, and Isabella Gerdes, Adrienne (Lance) Luehm, Alec, Delaney, and Cambree Plate, Marissa (Reid) Dalton, Madison, Maci, and Malia Easton; many great-great nieces and nephews and other loving family members and friends.
