IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence Edward
Henry Wulf
May 10, 1919 – May 11, 2020
Lawrence Edward Henry Wulf, age 101 of Avoca, Nebraska passed away May 11, 2020. He was born May 10, 1919 on the family farm near Otoe Nebraska, a place that was dear to him. He was born to Edward and Ella (Schomaker) Wulf, who preceded him in death, as did spouses, Eunice Wellman, Mary Lierley, an infant daughter Cynthia, and his sister Pauline.
He is survived by his children, Dennis Wulf (Sharon), Brian Wulf (Dixie), Becky McKim (Rob), Doug Wulf (Martha) and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lawrence was 1937 graduate of Avoca High School and attended Lincoln School of Commerce and the University of Nebraska. During WWII, he piloted a B-24 bomber in the 22nd Bomb Group of the 5th Air Force of the Army Air Corps in the Asian-Pacific Theater. His passion for flying and service continued in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1979. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He assumed the farming operations in 1946 and had a lifelong passion for farming and for Nebraska's landscape. Lawrence deeply loved the family farm, a place he always returned to. As well, he was committed to the community, serving on the board of directors of the Farmers' State Bank in Avoca, the First National Bank of Syracuse and as a member of Sertoma Club of Lincoln. He pursued finance working first at the First National Bank in Syracuse in the 1960s and later as a broker for Dain, Kalman & Quail (Dain Bosworth) in Lincoln from 1969 till he retired in 1990.
Lawrence loved to play cards with his friends, and was a dedicated Husker sports fan following all UNL teams. While in his prime, he enjoyed golf, fishing and continued recreational flying for many years. He will be deeply missed by his family, in part for his uncanny memory of eastern Nebraska's history, family lore, and knack for recalling life among the area's people. A more true Nebraskan there never was.
A private burial, with honors will be held at the Avoca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Avoca Cemetery or Avoca Town Hall in care of Fusselman Allen-Harvey Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Syracuse, Nebraska. 68446. Attn: Wulf Family.
