Obituary
LenaRae (Thomas) Nolting was born on November 30, 1935 at Hickman, Nebraska to John K Thomas and Jennie (Topp) Thomas.
She spent her early years in Bennet, Nebraska, where she attended Bennet schools. She contacted Rheumatic Fever at an early age leaving her blind for several years and putting her behind in school. While still living at home she went to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to help out her family when her father was sick. She met the love of her life and was married to Kenneth Nolting Sr. on April 11, 1959. Two small sons came with this union – she loved and raised the boys like her own and they returned the favor – she was the only mother the boys ever knew. A daughter was born in this marriage.
LenaRae's home was known as a gathering place - no one went hungry from her house and most kids in town sampled and loved her "Bum-Bum" cookies.
She also worked for Bob Jensen Grocery in Bennet and baby sat for several families in Bennet where her family lived at the time. She worked for Ken at the Repair Shop in Palmyra, Nebraska, and later on helped run and worked in the K&L Tavern and Café in Eddyville, Nebraska.
The couple returned to the Lincoln area to work and retire and settled in Unadilla. She first discovered she had cancer in 1996 in several places in her body. Twenty years of many operations and 20 years of over 100 chemo treatments and still it was her desire to beat it and continue to be alive for her family.
She loved her family and many others. She loved to camp and partnered with Ken to camp host for many years for the State of Nebraska. She was snappy and always spoke her mind. Each morning she needed her coffee and "Ho Ho" before starting her day. She was much loved.
She lost her bout with cancer at home, at peace and with family on Monday, January 25, 2016.
Survived By: Husband of 56 years, Kenneth Nolting Sr.; Sons: Joe Nolting, Colorado & Kenny Nolting Jr., Tennessee; Daughter: Laurie (Marty) Dyer of Omaha, NE; 5 Grandchildren: Jennie Winters of Lincoln, NE, Andy (Kim) Dyer of Omaha, NE, Michelle (Rocky) Kershaw of Grand Island, NE, Mike Popham of North Dakota, Alicia Dyer & friend Dan of Omaha, NE; 9 Great Grandchildren; 2 Brothers: Kenneth (Jan) Thomas of Plattsmouth, NE, Lester (Arlene) Thomas of Elm Creek, NE.
Preceded in Death By: Parents and two nieces, Cindy (Thomas) Graczyk and Kerri Jo Thomas.
Memorial services will be held on Friday January 29, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Unadilla Community Center at 770 G Street. Unadilla, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
