Lenora Kastens, 101 of Syracuse, was born to Emmett & Mae Sewell on August 7, 1915 in Red Bird, MO and went to be with her lord on January 11, 2017.
Lenora married Clarence Kastens on February 22, 1934 and was baptized and confirmed on November 2, 1934 by Rev. Bergstresser at First Lutheran Church (North Branch). Clarence and Lenora lived on a farm north of Unadilla until 1964 when they moved to Unadilla. She was employed at Russell Stover candy factory in Lincoln where she worked for 25 yrs. After her retirement from Russell Stover she went to work at the Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse in the food service dept. She retired from that job after 15 years at the age of 82. She is remembered at the hospital for the many good meals she prepared, especially her fried chicken and was called the cookie lady for her homemade cookies. She will also be remembered by the special attention she gave to each of her grandchildren, inviting them over individually and preparing a meal they especially liked.
She is survived by her sons: Rolly of Sutton, NE, Roger (Carolyn) of Syracuse, NE; 7 grandchildren: Lenora (Bruce) Laffitte of Salina, KS, Deborah (Jim) Schmailzl of Surprise, AZ, Marie (Kirk) Pope of Sutton, NE, Patricia (Todd) Burr of Hastings, NE, Tracy (Mark) Meyer of Wahoo, NE, Kurt (Brenda) Kastens of Palmyra, NE, Karla Kastens of Lincoln, NE; 11 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 3 step great great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Clarence; daughter-in-law: Josephine; parents: Emmett & Mae Sewell, 3 sisters & 1 brother and spouses; parents-in-law: John & Lena Kastens; 2 brothers-in-law and spouses.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca. Burial will be at First Lutheran cemetery. No viewing. Coffee & desserts will be served after the service.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church or First Lutheran Cemetery.
