Lonnie Dale Barnes was born on November 18, 1928 at Louisville, Nebraska to John Harold and Mabel (Long) Barnes. He passed away in Papillion on July 24, 2014 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 6 days.

He served his country in the Army from July 10, 1946 through October 11, 1948. He married Donita (Donna) Cook in Omaha, Nebraska on October 26, 1957. Together they raised 3 children – Steve, Susan, and Lonnie, Jr. Lonnie had several careers in his lifetime. He worked for the MUD – Gas Company for 10 years until 1965; then owned the Springfield Hardware Store for 11 years.. He was active in Sarpy County politics, once just losing the Register of Deeds election by 100 votes. He continued working with politics by arranging logistics for many political meetings, Lonnie also worked for Pendleton Mills for several years. He enjoyed many hobbies, such as Nebraska Football, fishing, gardening, and visiting with friends.

Lonnie is survived by 3 children: Steve and Rachel Barnes of State Center, Iowa, Susan and Don Bunting, of Anamosa, Iowa and Lonnie, Jr. and Beth Barnes, of Marshalltown, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.. Brother – Dennis and Janice Barnes ,and Sister – Joyce and Bob Kahland.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, parents – John and Mabel Barnes, step-mother – Hattie Barnes, and 5 siblings.

Graveside Service for Lonnie will be at 11:00 A.M. at the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield, Nebraska. Family Suggests Memorials to the family for later designation.

Visitation will be Monday, July 28, 2014 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. all at the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home, 413 Elm, Louisville, Nebraska, 402-234-3985
