Obituary

Lorraine Opal McGaugh was born September 28, 1922 on the family homestead near Burr, Nebraska to Herman and Ida (Pieper) Neemann. She was baptized on October 29, 1922.

Lorraine often shared happy memories of her childhood on the farm and attending country school.

On December 30, 1942 she married Gayland McGaugh at the Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, Nebraska. To this union a son and three daughters were born.

After the family settled in Cook, Lorraine clerked at local grocery stores until retiring to care for her Mother.

Family was very important. She was a loving and devoted Mother who always put her family first. She was especially proud of her three grandsons and their accomplishments and was very happy to welcome her precious great granddaughters to the family.

Until poor eyesight prevailed, Lorraine enjoyed reading, word-find puzzles, doing embroidery and cross stitch handiwork and tending her flowers. She looked forward to outings with her three sister-in-laws and the weekly coffee get-togethers with friends.

Lorraine often stated that she thought it quite an accomplishment to reach the age of eighty and was grateful that at eighty-eight years old, she was still able to live alone in her own home. Wonderful neighbors were a blessing for her. Betty and Bob Knapp were always available to help and delivered her mail daily. Betty also telephoned each day and Phil Gottlob made sure the sidewalks were cleared after every snowfall.

Lorraine passed away in Lincoln on April 2, 2011. She is survived by her children, Roland McGaugh of Lincoln, Nebraska, Connie McKinney and husband Jim of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Sharol Schilousky and husband Bill of Neligh, Nebraska; grandchildren Scott and Terri McKinney and daugther Kate of Lincoln, Jeff McKinney of Kearney and Kelly and Melanie Schilousky and daughter Claire of Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Jean Ward of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Edwin and Clarence, sister Laura, husband, daughter Lori Woltemath and a great granddaughter Elsa Grace Schilousky.
