Lyle Thomassen, age 91, of Weeping Water passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Syracuse Area Health in Syracuse, Nebraska.  He was born on August 31, 1933, in rural Weeping Water to Harold and Dusine (Jensen) Thomassen.

Lyle grew up on the family farm outside of Weeping Water, attended Laurel Hill Country School, and later graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1951.  Following graduation, he proudly served in the US. Army during the Korean War.   He met the love of his life Jean E. Domingo and the two were married on November 26, 1957, in Weeping Water.  After living in several other farm houses before a remodel of the Thomassen family farm house, together they made their home on the Thomassen's family farm and raised their family.  Lyle farmed with brother Lloyd until his death, and then he farmed with son Harold (Corky).

He was a lifetime member and commander of Weeping Water American Legion Post #237 and member of V.F.W., a member of the Danish Brotherhood, and served as president while he was a member of the Weeping Water Board of Education for many years.

He is survived by his children, Christine (Rick) Abbott, Carol Thomassen and Harold "Corky" Thomassen all of Weeping Water, NE, grandchildren, Lizzie (Adam) Countryman, Rickey Abbott, Cody (Tosha) Abbott, Ashton (Shawn) Flanagan, Alexandra (Mitchell) Wachter, Tiffany (Adam) Kafka, Jessica (Andrew) Lugg, John Ferguson, Nate Ferguson, Samantha Thomassen, Dane Thomassen, and Katrina Thomassen, great grandchildren, Devin, Addison, Jacksen & Emerick Countryman, Gemma Abbott, Alaina & Cooper Abbott, Connor, Penelope & Hadley Flanagan, Theodore & Sutton Wachter, Taylor Wade, Mya, Sunday, Madeline & Shyla Kafka, and Henry & Helen Lugg.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews along with other beloved family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Thomassen; daughter, Deanna Thomassen; sister, Edith Dockweiler; and brother, Lloyd Thomassen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Weeping Water with Pastor Chris Abbott officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 1-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Weeping Water, Nebraska with a luncheon following at First Congregational Church.

Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post #237 of Weeping Water or the First Congregational Church.
