Marcee A. Brownlee, 58 of Douglas, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, after a two year, hard fought battle with breast cancer. She was born on August 19, 1966, to Donald & Inez (Hartman) Brownlee in Syracuse.

Marcee grew up on the family farm where she learned the values of hard work and an appreciation for animals. As an only child, she always shared a close relationship with her parents.

She was united in marriage to Larry Furtwangler on October 13, 2022 after nearly twenty years together. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Marcee's life centered around her family and community.

Marcee was a mother first and her children were her top priority. She was present for every event and milestone in their lives and welcomed all of their friends into her home as if they were her own. She had a loving soul, offered kindness freely, and created a safe and nurturing environment for anyone who needed it.

She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1991, raising two spirited babies along the way, and led a life committed to practicing law. She served as an attorney for the city of Lincoln for over 25 years, retiring in April.

Marcee was an active member of the Palmyra Presbyterian Church, serving as the pianist for many years. She greatly valued the church community and her relationship with God. She was also a gifted crafter, projects included sewing, quilting, and model-making. Marcee used her talents to make family events unique and special. Her love of travel was defined by a solo trip to Ireland, among many other adventures.

Marcee is survived by her husband, Larry Furtwangler; her children, Jessica Sheil, Marc & Jordyn Sheil, Lyndsey Sheil & J.J. Thaut, Haley & Chris Greggs, and Jacob Furtwangler & Bailey Alwin; grandchildren, Casey Doolan and Avianna Greggs; brother, Kenneth & Ruth Hartman; and many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Nolan Furtwangler, and grandson Isaiah Sheil.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at the Palmyra Presbyterian Church. The service will be livestreamed on the church Facebook page. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Douglas.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with family greeting friends at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
