Margaret J. (Whitehead) Nannen peacefully passed away at her home on January 23, 2016 surrounded by family.
She was born to Harvey and Meda (Guenthe) Whitehead on January 8, 1933. She attended District 10 Country School and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1951. After High School, she married Raymond G. "Bob" Nannen and the two had five children. After 38 years of marriage she and Bob divorced, but Margaret remained very close with the Nannen family.
She worked for Nannen's IGA, Dr. Williams and Dr. Gately, the City of Syracuse, and retired from the Otoe ASCS/FSA Office in 1996 after 34 years of service. Margaret was a lifelong member of the Syracuse United Methodist Church and sang in the Church Choir for many years.
She is survived by her five children; her devoted Daughter and Son-in-Law, Deborah & Stephen Blom, Windsor, CO; Doug & Deb Nannen, Lincoln, NE; Donn & Bridget Nannen, Longmont, CO; Dane & Melissa Nannen, Syracuse, NE; and Dan & Bobbi Nannen, Syracuse, NE. Eleven Grandchildren, Kyle (Sara) Fischer; Craig Nannen; Lindsey, Michael, and Jetta Nannen; Jessica Nannen, Emily (Seth) Bohnart, Ben & Maddy Nannen; Jake (Dani) Nannen and Layni Nannen. Step Grandchildren, Renee (Dan) Fesmire, Matt Blom, and Liz Blom; Beau (Keri) Daffer; Cassy (BJ) Klimm. Great Grandchildren, Wrigley and Piper Fischer; Ryan and Emmery Nannen; and Mason Flores. Sister and Brother-in-Law, Marion & Raymond "Tom" Royal. Brothers-in-Law and Sisters-in-Law, Dick & Sherry Nannen; Gene & Kay Nannen; Neil & Carol Nannen. Many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Parents, Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Raymond & Margaret Nannen; Sister and Brother-in-Law, Betty Ann & Chet Byard; Sister & Brother-in-Law, Jean & Merlin "Bud" Engelbrecht; Brother, Art Whitehead and Brother Jimmy Whitehead. Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law, Joyce & Stanley "Bud" Wenz; Brothers-in-Law, Lyle Nannen and Mike Nannen.
Margaret's greatest joy in life was spending time with family and attending their many sporting events.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 26 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 27 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse.
Margaret asked that memorials go to the Syracuse United Methodist Church Building Fund.
