UPDATED - Marian Alfrey Johnson was born on August 16, 1935 in Louisville, Nebraska to Elbert C. and Henrietta (Biggs) Alfrey. Marian passed away on March 18, 2020 in Louisville, Nebraska at the age of 84.

Marian grew up in Louisville and lived there her entire life. She married Jim Johnson in 1954 and they had three children, Jeanine, Marlene and Brad.

Survivors are her 3 children: Jeanine (Tom) Hrdlicka of Wahoo, NE, Marlene (Bob) Dufek of Lincoln, NE, and Brad (Terri) Johnson of Murdock, NE. Marian is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Ryan Hrdlicka of Wahoo, Krista (Victor) Peterson of Fairbury, NE Samantha Wessels of Lincoln, Alex (Taylor) Wessels of Bellevue, NE, Hilarie (Tim) Seelhoff of Syracuse, NE, and Tyler (Brianna) Johnson of Gretna, NE. Great-grandchildren: Wrenley, Vander, Zula, and Waters Peterson, Gage and Baker Seelhoff and Brooks Johnson.
Marian had 7 siblings and is survived by Lue (Earl) Hrabik of Louisville, Hank Alfrey of Elkhorn, and sister-in-law Louise Alfrey of Bennet.

Marian was a strong leader throughout her entire life. She was committed to her family, church, school, and community. She enjoyed being married to the love of her life for 60 years, enjoyed many family activities, reunions, ball games and attended most of her children and grandchildren's activities.

She adjusted her work life according to the needs of her children and grandchildren. Marian had her own in-home daycare and preschool. She was the first para educator at Louisville Public Schools and worked there for over 20 years. She received the Outstanding Paraprofessional Award from the Louisville Public School Foundation/Louisville P-T Association in 2001. In 1993 Marian began the first before and after school program at Louisville School, fondly named Cub Club, which continues today. Prior to the birth of her children, she taught country school in rural Louisville and in Cedar Creek.

Marian coordinated Sunday School, Bible School, directed children's choir, led church youth groups, bible studies, and women's groups. Her latest project was her involvement in Hope's Closet which is a non-profit thrift store to benefit families in need. Marian was indeed a "Martha"!

Marian loved her school. She used to say that she bled purple and gold. She organized and supported Louisville Music Parents. Marian coordinated 2 different cookbook projects and many other fundraising endeavors to earn money for band uniforms and trips. She was known to squeeze 7-8 kids into her Volkswagen Bug to get them to early morning band practice. She coordinated band trips to Peony Park and Worlds of Fun. Her husband, Jim, was the bus driver for these events.

Marian was involved in every school bond for LPS and worked diligently on these projects, even giving the elderly rides to the voting polls. Marian was actively involved in the Louisville Alumni Association and coordinated events for her class get-togethers. She brought back the baccalaureate program by working with local churches in the Louisville community.

Marian loved her community of Louisville. If she saw a need or a cause that needed addressed, she was there, engaged, and ready to go. Marian will be tremendously missed by her family, friends, church, school, and community.
God gave Marian many wonderful gifts. She never hesitated to reach out to others to make them feel welcome. She recognized people's talents and strengths and her claim to fame was getting others involved. She was the spark plug that ignited the rest of us!

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Louisville United Methodist Church designated for the future renovation of the church fellowship hall.
