Marvin Herman Wendt age 93 of Murdock passed away at his home on February 15, 2023. He was born on May 14, 1929, in Wabash, Nebraska to Herman William and Else Johanna (Heil) Wendt.
Marvin grew up in Murdock and graduated from Murdock High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Lucille Hansen on June 11, 1950, and together they raised two children, Diane and Matthew, they later divorced in 1987. Marvin spent most of his life working in agriculture, operating the family farm, and operating a Hay & Feed Business supplying feed to thoroughbred racetracks, including Ak-Sar-Ben from 1960 through 1990, until his heart condition required a slower pace. He had a farm sale in 1990 and four years later, on October 25, 1994, he received a heart transplant in Salt Lake City, Utah. In his later years, he worked as a Course Marshall for the Quarry Oaks Golf Club. During his free time, he enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing and playing golf.
He was an avid horseman raising and breeding Appaloosa Horse for many years. He was a member of the Nebraska (Past Secretary and President) and National Appaloosa Horse Club. He was inducted into the Nebraska Appaloosa Hall of Fame January 19, 2008. Marvin's family continue their involvement with horses. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and trustee, a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as the Grand Marshall for the Murdock July 4 th Parade in 2011. Marvin was a charter member of the Murdock Lions Club. He was active in the Cass County 4H Club. Marvin was an avid Nebraska Football Fan and enjoyed trips with his friends in the Little Red Bus to both home and away games for many years. Marvin was a kid at heart and enjoyed multiple trips to the Walt Disney Parks in Florida over the past 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter Diane Carse and husband Marvin "Butch" of Davenport, Florida, son, Matthew Wendt and wife Michelle of Murdock, Nebraska, grandchildren, Justin Carse and wife Carrie of Davenport, Florida, Cole and Connor Wendt of Murdock, Nebraska, great grandson, Logan Carse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Else Wendt.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Murdock, Nebraska with Rev. Brent Kuhlman officiating. (The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook Page.)
Visitation with family will be Tuesday, February 21, 2023, beginning with a public prayer service at 6:00 PM followed with visitation until 8:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
