Max was born to Ephy and Alice (Hopper) Heard on November 4, 1947 in Norwood, Missouri. He was the 7th child, first-born son, in a family of 9. He attended Louisville School until graduation in 1965, and then received his Bachelors in Education from Peru State College. There he met and married Betty Andrews on July 1, 1967 at the Louisville United Methodist Church. They had three sons - Mike, Stan, and Bill. After teaching four years in Murray and Murdock, he left education in 1971 to work at the Ash Grove Cement Company in Louisville, Nebraska.
Max is a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was one of the original members of the Louisville Foundation. Youth sport programs were his biggest contribution to the Lousiville Community. He coached for over 25 years, coaching his 3 sons through their baseball years, and continuing to coach Legion Baseball until 1997.
Max's favorite times involved family and friends. He was enjoying his life when the grandkids started coming along. Their curiosity, mischief, and smiles never failed to brighten up his days. Our joys in life became the joy we saw in theirs. He totally enjoyed attedning all their activities. His 7 grandchildren were his pride and joy. He believed that grandchildren are life's ultimate blessings...and of course, there was none greater than his. Max also felt you should take time for humor. He always enjoyed joking and laughing with others, and his laugh was infectious.
