May E. Bechtold, 93 of Syracuse, passed away on Monday April 4th, 2016 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Home. She was born on June 15, 1922 to Peter & Nellie (Monger) Peterson in Sherman, SD.

May married A. Robert Bechtold on June 30th, 1945 and to this union they had 2 sons, Boyd & Gary. May was very active in the Syracuse VFW Auxiliary and volunteered many hours at the VA Hospital. She was also very active at St. John's United Church of Christ.

She is survived by her Sons: Boyd (Theresa) of Riverton, IA, Gary (Virginia) of Council Bluffs, IA; Grandchildren: Mike (Kristal) Bechtold of Ord, Julie (Kelly) Connelly of Grand Island, Tracy Bechtold, Dana Bechtold; 5 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Pearl Hodne of Salom, SD; Sister-in-law: Edna Bragstad of Garretson, SD; also many Hodne nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brother: J.O. Bragstad, Brother-in-law: Clifford Hodne.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 7th from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. with family greeting friends from 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the VFW Auxiliary #5547 in Syracuse to fund memorial benches.
