Obituary
Melvin O. Kuenning, 95 of Syracuse, NE passed away on June 24, 2014 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. He was born on September 6, 1918 to Oscar & Myrtle (Wiles) Kuenning at their home in rural Syracuse.
Melvin married Irene Genthe on December 31, 1941 at her parents home in rural Syracuse. In 1942 Melvin joined the Army and served during WWII in the Pacific in the Gilbert Islands & Hawaii. When he returned he was a farmer the rest of his life. Melvin was also a life member of the VFW Post #5547, a member of Luther Memorial Church where he served on Church Council. He also served as a School Board Member for Dist. 84 and was a Past King of Germanfest in 1997.
Melvin is survived by his Wife: Irene of Syracuse; Children: Carol Wallman of Syracuse, Mary Ann (Doug) Boldt of Callaway, Gary (Ellen) Kuenning of Syracuse, Kathryn (Kevin) Johnson of Columbus, Roger (Laurie) Kuenning of Syracuse; Grandchildren: John (Christy) Wallman, Paul (Jennifer) Wallman, Chris (Jacque) Wallman, Amy (Robert) Jones, Todd (Shelley) Boldt, Ryan (Amy) Boldt, Erin (Michael) Reiff, Ann (Jeff) Hoppe, Kay (Brian) Bates, Elizabeth (Tony) Kavan, Jennifer Brownlow, Laura (Kevan) Reeson, Brett (Rachel) Johnson, Grace Kuenning, Hope Kuenning, Luke Kuenning; 29 Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Erma Siemers, Myldred (Harvey) Dettmer, Arvilla Noerrlinger, Betty Wallen; Brothers: Wilbur Kuenning, Harold Kuenning, Sisters-in-law: Viola Sinnen, Lois Genthe.
He was preceded in Death By: Parents, Son-in-law: Rod Wallman; Sisters: Alvina Vacca, Shirley Kuenning; Brothers: Warren Kuenning, David Kuenning, Maynard Kuenning.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday June 30, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NE. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 29 from 9 A.M. until 4 P.M. at the funeral home. It will resume at 5 P.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with family greeting friends from 5-7 P.M. A prayer service will be held at 7 P.M. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Family's Choice.
