Michael George Jordan passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Ohio State University Hospital. Mike was born in Omaha on Nov. 22, 1952, to George J. Jordan and Helen C. McCauley Curtis Jordan.
Mike was raised in Plattsmouth, the city where the Platte and Missouri Rivers meet. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1971 and was active in football and wrestling. His skill and passion for wrestling earned him a varsity letter. Mike was also active in the Speech Club and earned numerous awards and medals for his oratory skills. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, graduating from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at San Diego, Calif. After his service in the Marine Corps, Mike moved to Columbus, Ohio, and was a long-time resident of the Tri-Village area. For many years he was an employee and manager at Alba Ski & Sport and Ski America. Mike also worked in a number of different capacities, including manager at The Library and The Travel Agency, popular 1971s and 1980s Ohio State University campus nightclubs. In the early 1980s, Mike lived in South Lake, Tahoe, Calif., where he was the manager of The Outdoorsman, a ski and sports retailer, and was a ski instructor and member of the ski patrol at area resorts. For the past 10 years, Mike has been a groundskeeper for The Wagenbrenner Company taking care of the property and tenants in and around the historic Grandview bank block.
Mike was an avid skier and mountain biker, a world-class foosballer and champion dart thrower. He was kind, generous and a friend to man and animal alike. Mike never missed the opportunity to cheer on his beloved Nebraksa Cornhuskers and Ohio State Buckeyes. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Mike is survived by his twin sister, Patricia Cromer of Hiawatha, Kan.,; sisters, Mary Foster of Fall City and Cathy Smith of Shawnee, Okla.; and a brother, Larry Curtis of Omaha. Preceding him in death are his parents and brothers, Earl Curtis and Daniel Curtis. Mike's body has been returned to his home state of Nebraska for a funeral service on Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home, Plattsmouth. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouthy. Contributions in Mike's memory may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program,
