Mildred J Wheatley, 86 of Eagle passed Oct 24, 2021. She was the fourth of eleven children born to Margaret (Wieskamp) and Karl Hartman at home near Roca. Mildred was married to Don Wheatley 68 years ago at the Palmyra Presbyterian Church. Mildred was a farm wife and mother of six children and has been very active in their lives as well as the lives of her grandchildren. Once the children were grown, Mildred tried her hand at working outside the home, first sewing coats at a coat factory in Syracuse and then working at Kresgee's in Lincoln. Family called her back to her first love when she helped care for grandchildren and great grandchildren and continued to help Don on the farm. Mildred loved to travel and together Don and Mildred traveled to all 50 states. Highlights included the Panama Canal, motorcycle trips to South Dakota and Florida, Moostache Joe bus tours including Alaska and New York, taking their young family to Disneyland, and on train trips to Chicago and Denver and many other places.
She is survived by her husband Don Wheatley; children Janet Wheatley, Jodene (Greg) Crawford, Don (Jolee) Wheatley, Sharon (Russ) Hintz, Rick (Ronda) Wheatley, and Joyce (Greg) Vogt; grandchildren Angela (Ben) Modrell, Brandon (Vicky) Desh, Anthony (Ashley) Nisley, Melanie (Cody) Nelson, Bev (Brad) Crawford, Gwen Crawford, Aaron (Jerrica) Wheatley, Heather (Justin) Holub, Marissa (Justin) McMahon, Ben (Baillie) Kroese, Jodie (Matt) Harstick, Josh (Amy) Wheatley, Jeff (Amber) Wheatley, Kristin (Danny) Vela, Heath (Tifanie) Vogt, Tyson (Cassie) Vogt, Brent (Saranne) Vogt, Jordan Vogt, Derick (Marissa) Vogt; great grandchildren Joslynn Modrell, Ella, Keely & Isaac Desh, Carter Nisley, Coy & Jace Nelson, Amelia Tersteeg, Brooke (Jared) Gilmore, Gerrit Pearson, Cody (Ellie) Pearson, Avery & Valerie Wheatley, Tonya Holub, Natalie & Makenzie McMahon, Evan & Sage Harstick, Grant & Macy Jo Wheatley, Gavin Trimble, Kailey, Dominic, Kane & Daxton Wheatley, Dylan & Devynn Vela, Payton, Taylor, Addelyn Vogt, Madden, Burke & Callan Vogt, Otto & Etta Vogt; great great grandchildren Luna Trimble, Kaden Gilmore; siblings Eugene's wife Karen Hartman, Earl Hartman, Karl's wife Phyllis Hartman, Marlene Schroder, Kenny (Ruth) Hartman, Ron Hartman, Donna (Larry) Harshfield, Daryl (Lyn) Hartman and Marion Frymire.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Karl & Margaret (Wieskamp) Hartman and William & Viola Wheatley, siblings Ethel & Dale Dreeszen, Eugene Hartman, Dorothy & Melvin Kearn, Earl's wife Mitzie Hartman, Karl Hartman Jr, Marlene's husband Arnold Schroder, Bill Wheatley, Wilma & Eugene West, Larry & Jackie Wheatley, Dick Frymire and grandson Jared Kroese.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am October 28, 2021, at the Palmyra Presbyterian Church with interment following at the Rosewood Cemetery followed by a lunch at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Palmyra Presbyterian Church.
