Minerva (Mickey) Dorothy Anson was born on May 13, 1924, to Arnold and Esther (Vogler) Schliefert on the family farm near Manley, NE, where she spent 89 years of her life.
Mickey was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Louisville, NE. She was baptized on June 15, 1924, by Rev. Hartman at Immanuel and confirmed on June 20, 1937, by Rev. Hartman.
She attended Manley School as a child and graduated from Weeping Water High School. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She also earned a Master's Degree from UNL. Mickey taught at Nehawka, Weeping Water and Plattsmouth Public Schools as a Home Economics Teacher. She also taught in the state of Washington at a Girls' Correctional School. Mickey was united in marriage to Robert Anson in Minden, Nebraska, on July 18, 1967.
She loved gardening and especially her Iris Gardens. She grew up side-by-side with her father in the gardens learning all the details of Iris growing and hybridizing, in which they hybridized 17 of their own varieties. The one Iris she favored that had received national awards, was her famous "Angel Choir". Mickey maintained and managed the Schliefert Iris Gardens located near Manley, Nebraska, for most of her living years. She was a member of the American Iris Society.
She died May 12, 2018, at the Louisville Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 16th 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church 36712 Church Road, Louisville, Nebraska with burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
