Myrtle Elva Nagel, 95, died February 29, 2008 at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held on Sat. March 8th at 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home in Syracuse Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Bennett, Nebraska Cemetery.
Myrtle was born October 21, 1912 on a farm near Bennett, Nebraska to George and Leona Rodaway. She was born next to the last of a family of 14 children.
She graduated from the 8th grade and completed one year of high school. She married Henry Beckfeldt on June 15, 1935 in Shenandoah, Iowa. To this union, 6 children were born. After their divorce in 1953, she then moved to Denver, Colorado.
In 1974 she married Louis Nagel. They lived in Agate, Colorado until their marriage ended in 1985. She moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1986, lived there until October 1995 when she moved to Anchorage to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Delbert Martin. She moved into Anchorage Pioneer Home in December of 2000 when her health started to decline.
Myrtle liked to play dominos, do jigsaw puzzles, watch baseball, read the newspaper, play bingo, do embroidery work and visit with friends at the Pioneer Home. In her younger years she loved to dance. She had attended the First Presbyterian Church.
She thought Alaska was the most beautiful state she had ever seen and loved living there the last few years of her life.
Myrtle truly enjoyed her stay at the Anchorage Pioneer Home. She said the nurses and staff were very good to her and always took the time to say, "Hi, how are you doing today?" which she truly appreciated. She always enjoyed the activities, so they would remind her when something was going on.
Everyone said Myrtle had a great sense of humor, always said "Thank you" and "God Bless You." She will truly be missed by her family and many friends.
Myrtle is survived by two sons; Gary Beckfeldt of Lincoln, Nebraska and Carl Gordon of Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters, Ruth Martin of Anchorage, Alaska and Madonna Bell of Mequon, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters; two sons, one grandson, and two great grandchildren.
