Neri John Holscher, 91 of Syracuse, formerly of Cook, passed away on July 10, 2022, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. He was born on February 7, 1931, the son of Harvey & Nora (Bentzinger) Holscher in the house at 107 East Main St., Cook, NE. He was baptized by Rev. J.M. Hertel & confirmed by T. Phundt, all at St. Paul's UCC (Osage) in rural Cook.

He attended school in Cook, grades 1 thru 4. In 1940 his family moved to the farm & he attended school at Dist. 50 Otoe Co. grades 5 thru 8. Neri then attended high school in Cook & graduated in 1948. After graduation he helped with the farming & drove a stock and grain truck for his dad. He played on the Cook softball team several years.

Along with five other young men from Cook, he joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 11, 1952 & was honorably discharged on his birthday, Feb. 7, 1956. He spent his time on the USS Piedmont AD-17.

Neri was united in marriage on June 17, 1957, to Delores Langenberg in her home church, St. John's UCC (McWilliams) in rural Talmage. To this union were born 2 daughters, Debra Jean and Penny Sue.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's UCC (Osage), served on the church board (twice), sang in the church choir many years, a member of Men's Fellowship (held all offices) and was a Sunday School Superintendent several years. He was a 4-H leader several years for the Osager's 4-H Club. He drove a school bus for 40 years. A member of Bickel-Nelson Post #360 of the American Legion & served on all offices. It was his idea for the triangle of flags in Cook. He was in charge of getting it done. Neri was a retired farmer and in Jan. 1994 he and his wife moved into a new house in Cook. He then worked for Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home in Syracuse & later for Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home.

Neri enjoyed life & loved to tell jokes (some were nice & some were not so nice, some you tell your minister & some you could not tell your minister). He enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved most sports including high school events & Husker sports.

He is survived by his daughters Debbie (Gary) Wellsandt, Penny (Mike) Weber; grandchildren Tiffany (Vince) Meyer, Chelsea (Chris) Saathoff, Megan (Alan) Wirth, Holly (Alex) Kuhl, Lindsay (Grant) Badertscher; great grandchildren Sawyer & Brenna Meyer, Reagan Saathoff, Neil & Sydney Wirth; brother-in-law Leroy Langenberg; one niece, two nephews, cousins and hopefully many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother & sister-in-law Evan & Lucille Holscher.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's UCC (Osage) in rural Cook. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at St. Paul's UCC Cemetery (Osage).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
