Norman Louis Royal, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at his home in Syracuse. He was born March 17, 1941, to William and Millicent (Poggemeyer) Royal in Syracuse.

After high school, Norm entered the Army Reserve and served his country from 1964 - 1970. Upon completion of his service, he attended business college, eventually owning and operating two small businesses, Norm's Variety & Crafts and a bowling alley, Royal Lanes. In addition to his business endeavors, Norm kept busy as a member of the Syracuse Fire Department and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout the years he would also work as a cashier, for both Casey's and the Nutcracker gas stations.

In addition to his love for family, Norman also had a love for needlepoint. In the little down time he had, he loved making needlepoint creations to share.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law Donna Royal and Kathy Royal; nieces & nephews Chris Royal, Greg Royal, Mark (Jodi) Royal, Nate (Camie) Royal, Lori (Jeff) Schultz, Nicole (Mike) Keslar; 9 great nieces & nephews and 5 great-great nieces & nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald & William "Bill" Royal, niece Jody Royal, and nephew Aaron Royal.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at the St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse. The funeral will be livestreamed on the church's Facebook page. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 9 AM – 4 PM at the funeral home in Syracuse. From 5 PM – 7PM the family will greet friends at the church, followed by a rosary starting at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paulinus Catholic Church Renovation.
