Obituary

Olaf Christopher Schavland "Ole", 74 of Syracuse, was born to Helen (Davis) Schavland and Thomas Schavland on December 15, 1943 at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, NE. He passed away on November 5, 2018 in Syracuse.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Helen in 1998 in Nebraska City, NE and Thomas in 1976 in Lincoln, NE.

He is survived by his Daughter: Rosean Schavland-Shrader and a Half Brother: Thomas Schavland Jr.; Grandson: William Shrader and Granddaughter: Tabitha Marie Shrader; Daughter from his previous marriage Denise Metz and her 2 children. Also numerous cousins: Dean Thompson & Spouse, Jerry Janeke, Calvin West & Doris West.

Ole grew up in Lincoln, NE until moving to California after graduating high school. As he traveled through the states, he made his way by shooting pool. Attending Collage at Deanza, he receives his bachelor's degree in Electronics in 1966.

Ole was a very talented musician and played in a band named Johnny and the diamonds. He sang and played guitar. That is how he met Marie Fertuna, whom was also in the band along with her 2 brothers, Johnny & Allen. After a short courtship, they were married June 21, 1968. From that union they had a daughter (Rosean).

He was a proud & active member of the Conquistadors Jeep Club and had a passion for racing his jeep at Pismo Beach.

Ole worked for Intel Corporation as a manager for 15 years until an accident forced him into early retirement in his early 40's. At that time, he moved to Sonora, CA where he helped and lived with his in-laws.

He was an active member & volunteer of the community. He as a CPR instructor and an advocate for Victim Witness (an organization to help victims for disaster and violence). He was also a member of the mud, sweat and gears Jeep Club.

Leaving Sonora in 1992 to return to Nebraska to tend to his ailing mother and remained there till his passing.

He had been an active member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NE for many years and was also a member of the Nebraska City Barber Shop Quartet.

Ole enjoyed crossword puzzles and game shows, but his greatest passion was his music. He had a great love for his family and friends and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 12th from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 8-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 13th at 11:30 A.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Cremation to follow.

Please join the family after services for a luncheon and celebration of life.

Memorials are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers to help with final expenses.
