Pearl A. Monahan was born on November 20, 1913 in Palmyra, Nebraska to John & Falsom (Dwinell) Dowding. She passed away on Saturday January 14, 2012 at the age of 98 years, 1 month, and 25 days.
Pearl married Clarence Monahan on March 19, 1935 in Wilber, Nebraska and to this union they raised 3 children Richard, Gladys, and John. Pearl lived most of her life in the Palmyra area. She worked as a cook at the Palmyra School for over 40 years. She was also a 4-H Leader, Member of the Mothers Club since 1943 and was a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge. She also taught Sunday School for over 40 years. In her free time she loved to garden, quilt, do word searches, crochet and cook. She loved to be with her family as much as she could and crocheted each one a Christmas stocking. She attended school in Palmyra and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1930. She attended the alumni reunion 81 years without missing a year.
In November 2008 Pearl moved to the Gold Crest Retirement Center. While she was there she enjoyed playing bingo and doing other crafts and activities they provided.
Pearl is survived by her Son: Richard Monahan & Marie of Thornton, CO, Daughter: Gladys Kuhlmann & Omer of Sterling, NE, Son: John Monahan & Bonnie of Sioux Falls, SD, 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandsons, Sister: Lovina Genuchi of Bennet, NE, Brothers: Gerald Dowding of Palmyra, NE, Verne & Winifred Dowding of Eagle, NE.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Clarence, Infant Daughter, 3 Brothers & 1 Sister, and a Son-in-law.
Funeral Services for Pearl will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 10 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Palmyra, Nebraska with Rev. Bill Armold officiating.
Burial will be at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra, Nebraska.
The family suggests memorials to the Family's Choice.
The casket will be open 1 hour before the service at the church for viewing.
