Ralph L. Mortimore, age 98, of Quincy, died on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 5:25 p.m. in the Illinois Veterans' Home.

He was born February 16, 1925 in Palmyra, Nebraska, the son of Howard and Gertrude Johnson Mortimore.

On December 25, 1951, he married Dorothy Miller in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She survives.

Ralph was a graduate of Palmyra High School and the University of Nebraska, from where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an electronics design engineer by profession for 35 years.

During his life, Ralph wore many hats and caps. He was a farmer, an engineer, a sailor, a Boy Scout leader, a Lions Club member, a SCORE counselor, a pastor, a chaplain, an RSVP volunteer, a Kiwanis Club member, and most importantly a dad.

Ralph was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America for 20 years.  He has been a member of the Community of Christ Church where he was an elder. He served for several years as the pastor of the Quincy congregation.

After retirement, he became involved in volunteer work. His volunteer work included SCORE, RSVP, a member of the Blessing Hospital chaplaincy, and Meals-On-Wheels.

Ralph served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950, until his honorable discharge in 1954.

He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis Club, where he served as president and Lieutenant Governor.

In addition to his wife, survivors include six children: Debra (Alden) Lohmeier of Pleasant Dale, NE; Diana L. Blair of Dillard, NE; David L. Mortimore of Austin, TX;  Denise L. Mortimore of Quincy; Donald L. Mortimore of Kearney, NE;  and Donna Mortimore of Quincy; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; two sisters: Esther Stephens and Ruth Mortimore; and two daughters-in-law: Dena Mortimore and Rita Mortimore.

Visitation: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Elder Becky Will officiating.

Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Rosewood Cemetery, Palmyra, Nebraska.
