Richard "Dick" Allen Meyer, 87 of rural Avoca, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2024, at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln. He was born at St. Mary Hospital in Nebraska City on December 18, 1936, to George & Theresa (Sand) Meyer. Dick attended Avoca High School, where he played basketball and track, graduating with the class of 1954. After graduation, he took employment at a packing house in Omaha, saving for his future dream of farming on his own. On September 6, 1956, he married the love of his life, Luella Buchholz, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of rural Avoca.

A dedicated farmer, Dick spent his life caring for the land. In his early years, he raised beef cattle and hogs. Later, selling the hogs, Dick and Luella, along with their children, added a dairy until ultimately focusing on growing their beef cattle operation of up to 300. His faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church near Avoca and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Dick also enjoyed music, dancing, and playing cards. He and Luella were members of several card clubs playing pinochle. He also loved playing pitch with family and friends, and watching Husker athletics and Creighton basketball on TV.

Left to cherish his memory are wife, Luella, and their 6 children: Annette (Gary) Smith, Rick (Kim) Meyer, Jeanette (Mark) Eilers, Diana (Jeff) Barry, Roger Meyer and Amy (Dan) Riley; grandchildren: Heidi (Shane) Zywiec, Adam Smith (Chelsey Ellis), Jared (Sarah) Smith, Lydia (Nick) Jindra, Caleb (Courtney) Smith, Ashley Meyer (Mike Weltzen), Meagan Meyer (Darrin Ensor), Alyssa (Tony) Chamberlin, Andria (Colby) McQuillin, Erin (Nick) Barton, Erica (Lindsey) Searcey, Nick Eilers, Austin (Natalie) Eilers, Kelsey (Ben) Bedient, Taylor (Brooke) Barry, Lauren (Alex) Leach, Riley Meyer (Brittany Buschow), Reese (Clare) Meyer, Ryan Meyer, Jenna Riley & fiancé Harrison Sanny, Kyle Riley, and Lacilyn Riley; great grandchildren: Allysa, Aubrey & Reid Zywiec, Nathan & Hadley Ellis, Alivia, Eliza & Maverick Smith, Carrie, Emma, Cole Jindra, Lilly, Macin, Harper & Hunter Meyer-Weltzen, Brooke & Levi Meyer-Ensor, Ben, Garrett, and Megan Chamberlin, Finnley, Cooper, Penny, and Ivy McQuillin, Noah & Asher Barton, Avery, Ethan & Christian Searcey, Abram & Owen Eilers, Warren & Madylin Bedient, Victoria & Sophia Buschow, George, Catherine & Oliver Meyer, Cameron & Cassidy Casura and Preslie Smith; brother Jim (Joan) Meyer; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Barbara Meyer, Angeline Meyer, Ruby Lutjemeyer and Leonard (Letha) Buchholz; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
