Obituary

Richard Dwayne Genthe was born on January 21, 1932 in Syracuse, Nebraska to Frank and Malinda (Weber) Genthe. He passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Richard was raised in the Syracuse area and attended Syracuse Public School graduating with the class of 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from 1951 until 1955. After returning home, he met and was married to Margaret M. Garner on September 10, 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska. Richard worked as an air traffic controller for many years at Eppley Airfield in Omaha. He also worked for an oil distributor and retired to Sun City, Arizona. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling and spent many summers in Rexburg, Idaho and wintered at their home in Sun City, Arizona. They moved back to the Syracuse Area 4 ½ years ago to be closer to family.

Richard had a great love for cooking, at Christmas time, he would make fruit cakes to share with all of his friends. Besides cooking, he enjoyed having coffee with friends, playing cards and talking on the telephone. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and Massie Richards Post #100, American Legion, both of Syracuse.

He is survived by his Wife, Margaret Genthe of Syracuse, NE; Sister: Arva Stillahn of Syracuse, NE; Sister-in-law: Linda Genthe of Syracuse, NE; Brother-in-law: Tim & Arlene Garner of Hazen, ND; Nieces and Nephews: Jolene Block and Steve Vogel of Nebraska City, NE; Lori & Warren Farrar of Bloomington, IL; Kelly & Cory Heim of Normal, IL; Nick & Karri Henderson of Marysville, MO; Steve & Barb Garner and wife of SC, and Susan & Lowell Reich of MI. Also survived by numerous great nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother, Kenneth Genthe; Brother-in-law: Donald Stillahn, In-Laws: Walt & Olive Garner

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 15, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Syracuse, NE, with burial at Park Hill Cemetery, Syracuse, NE. Memorials are suggested to Families Choice.

Visitation will be Thursday from Noon until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
