Ricky Eugene Bruns, 70, of Avoca passed away on July 17, 2023, at his home.  He was born on July 26, 1952, to Maynard and Geraldine (Mickle) Bruns.  He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1970.  After attending high school he worked at Iowa Limestone Company before becoming a full time farmer and owner/operator of heavy equipment.  As a farmer he was a lover of animals.  He married Connie Kroese on April 6, 1973.  They had four children that he enjoyed watching and teaching unique skills. He made sure his kids had opportunities to do things he couldn't. Rick was a member of the St. John's UCC Church in Syracuse serving as board president for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #237 Weeping Water, Nebraska.  Another one of Rick's passions came to life when he started Git'er Done Cookin' and the family got to cater together! He valued his friends and their friendship. Rick will be remembered as an incredible father and grandfather, devoted husband, loving brother and a friend to many.

Rick is survived by his wife: Connie; children: Carrie (Barry) Brandt of Unadilla- Burton, Barret and Brody; Roxanne (Ben) Kastens of Elmwood - Rylan, Rowan and Ryerson; Brenda (Jarred) Royal of Syracuse - Irvin, Maeva and Vera; Scott (Ashley Quimby) Bruns of Avoca- Corrick and Amelia; sisters: Janice (Mike) Lomax of Lincoln, LuAnn Gobber of Lincoln, Kathy (Fred) Helmink of Lincoln; brother-in-law: Steve Kroese of Unadilla; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, In-laws, Infant Grandson: Baby J Royal.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the St. John's UCC Facebook page. Burial will follow the service at the Avoca Cemetery. A time of gathering and celebration of Rick's life will be held at the Avoca Town Hall immediately following the burial.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
